Are Garlic Parmesan Wings Low-Carb?

Yes, garlic parmesan wings can be low-carb. The primary ingredients, chicken wings, garlic, and parmesan cheese, are naturally low in carbohydrates. However, it's important to check for any added sauces or breading that might increase the carb content. Using fresh garlic and parmesan without sugary sauces or flour coatings ensures they remain a low-carb option, suitable for ketogenic or low-carb diets.

I have also used mayonnaise in this recipe and you might be wondering Is Mayo Low Carb or not but I have used a low carb version of mayo and ensured all ingredients align with the low carb diet, making this recipe an excellent choice for all low carb dieters

I have created this recipe in accordance with the keto diet. It contains only 1 g net carbs per serving, which means you can eat and enjoy without worrying about your carb intake.

Why Make This Garlic Parmesan Wing Sauce Recipe?

Want to know why to make this garlic parmesan wing sauce recipe? Here are a few reasons:

  • This garlic parmesan sauce is one of the easiest recipes to make.
  • The flavors in this sauce are off the scale. Really, it's just an incredible mixture of creamy base layer right up to spicy high notes.
  • It is so much more than just a wing sauce. Try dipping some celery, bell peppers, radishes, or raw broccoli in this garlic parmesan sauce. It will be the hit of the party.
  • I've used this sauce as a salad dressing on romaine lettuce with some sliced cherry tomatoes, black olives and bacon. Yum!

Ingredient Substitutions

Here are some simple ingredient substitutions you can use for this flavor-packed sauce:

  • Sour cream: You can use full-fat Greek yogurt.
  • Parmesan: Use pecorino Romano or shredded Asiago. We need big flavors!
  • Apple cider vinegar: Use red wine or white wine vinegar but avoid balsamic or rice wine vinegar as they don't play well with this recipe.
  • Lemon juice: You could use lime juice, but the flavor will be slightly different. Avoid any jarred or bottled lemon juice as it has too much acid - natural flavor is better.
  • Red pepper flakes: I love adding Aleppo pepper flakes (they are slightly fruity in flavor) or really punching up the heat with some cayenne pepper. This garlic parmesan sauce has some kick in the spice department, so if you don't love spicy food, then drop the red pepper flakes to ¼ teaspoons or try some chili powder or smoked paprika instead.
  • Dried oregano: Use store-bought Italian seasoning.
  • Dried parsley: Try some fresh parsley, or dried chives or dill (or both!)
  • Granulated garlic: I love adding in 3 garlic cloves of my roasted garlic that has been mashed up before adding. Just mix it in and enjoy. Besides that, you can also add one teaspoon garlic powder. I would avoid raw fresh garlic unless you love that overpowering flavor.

Additional Ingredients

Want to take your garlic parmesan dipping sauce to the next level? Here are a few tasty additions that pair perfectly with the main ingredients:

  • Fresh herbs: If you don’t want to use the dried herbs, add fresh oregano and parsley (just triple the amounts). I also love adding in some fresh chives, dill, and black pepper. So good.
  • Lemon zest: If you have a lemon hanging out (you should from the fresh lemon juice!), go ahead and zest the skin. Add this directly to the wing sauce. The lemon punches up the flavor a lot.

Note: These ingredients are optional, you can use them to enhance the flavor of the creamy garlic wing sauce.

💡 My Pro Tip

This is a quick pro tip: when we taste the wing sauce right after making it, we just look for the salt content. We want to make sure it is salted appropriately. The flavors may feel “lacking” at this moment, particularly if dried herbs have been used. This is normal—don’t freak out and add more spices. We have to let the sauce sit, and the flavors develop. It takes at least 30 minutes, but it is at its best right around an hour or so. When you taste it again, you will see the subtle garlic tones mixing with the oregano and parsley.

⏲️ Time-Saving Tips

  • Make the sauce ahead so the flavors have time to meld together.
  • Use store-bought mayo rather than making your own. But if you are following a keto or low-carb diet, be careful of store-bought mayonnaise. There is typically sugar added to store-bought mayo. For this recipe I use my fast homemade mayo.
  • Chop any fresh herbs in advance and store them in the fridge.

What to Serve with Garlic Parmesan Wing Sauce?

This low-calorie garlic parmesan sauce is a versatile dip that pairs well with many dishes. Here are some tasty ideas:

  • BBQ Lamb Chops: Drizzle this perfect sauce over grilled lamb chops for an extra burst of flavor. The creamy garlic and parmesan blend perfectly with smoky BBQ.
  • Grilled Chicken Wings: Serve cooked wings with sauce. Toss grilled wings in this creamy garlic sauce for a deliciously rich and tangy coating. It adds a delightful twist and gives a crispy skin texture!
  • Keto Chicken Tenders: It's a great sauce for chicken tenders. Use the garlic parm wing sauce as an earthy dipping sauce and enjoy the crunch with a creamy, garlicky goodness.
  • Smoked Wings: Smother smoked wings in this flavorful sauce for an irresistible combination. The smoky and creamy flavors meld together beautifully.
  • Smothered Pork Chops: Pour this flavorful garlic parmesan sauce over smothered pork chops to enhance their savory taste. The creamy garlic parmesan sauce will elevate the dish to a new level.

Refrigerate this creamy garlic parmesan sauce for wings promptly, as it is perishable. Leftover sauce can typically be kept for up to a week in an airtight container, but I recommend consuming it within five days for optimal freshness.

Notes

FOR THE BEST RESULTS:
  • For my garlic parmesan wing sauce, I use freshly grated parmesan. If you decide to use parmesan from a can, reduce the amount to 2 tablespoons. Once you taste how the parmesan has impacted the dip, you can add more if you like. Remember that a little goes a long way!
  • If you are following a keto / low carb diet, be careful of store bought mayonnaise. There is typically sugar added to store bought mayo. For this recipe I use my fast homemade mayo. The link is in the ingredients list above.
  • Because we are using dried herbs and spices, it is best to let the flavors develop. This is done by letting the parmesan dipping sauce sit for at least 30 minutes before using. You will notice a huge difference in the depth of flavor once it has sat for a bit.
SUBSTITUTION AND ALTERNATIVE FLAVOR IDEAS:
  • This garlic parmesan sauce has some kick in the spice department. If you don't love spicy food, then drop the red pepper flakes to ¼ teaspoon.
  • You can play around with other dried herbs such as sage, chives and cilantro. Be careful with the cilantro as it tends to add some bite with the parmesan for some reason.
  • If you don't have a lemon, add the juice from a lime. If you don't have apple cider vinegar, use red wine vinegar, but avoid balsamic or rice wine vinegar as they don't play well with this recipe.
HOW TO SERVE AND STORE:
  • You can serve this garlic parmesan sauce as the perfect accompaniment to wings, chicken breasts, pork chops (particularly if they are dry!) or even on a burger.
  • I've used this sauce as a salad dressing on romaine lettuce with some sliced cherry tomatoes, black olives and bacon. Yum.
  • This sauce needs to be refrigerated and is absolutely perishable. I've kept it for up to a week, but typically pitch it around five days in the fridge if there is any left.
