Photographing food is a skill that needs to be learned... for most people it does not come naturally. With the resources available here, you will feed more comfortable behind the camera and start producing incredible shots for your food blog.
PHOTOGRAPHING FOOD: GETTING STARTED
Here's the best suggestion that I can give anyone learning about photographing food: buy any one or all of the books listed below. Had someone just told me a year ago just how incredible these resources are, I would be much more developed with my blog and the daily job of building traffic.
Here's why:
- Buying any of these books is going to save you a ton of time, frustration and money. I spent an afternoon each reading these books and had more "ah-ha" moments than I can even recount. My photo sessions went from a cursing, hurried mess to a relaxed and enjoyable experience.
- These books are written in plain english with very little jargon. Not sure why ISO or F-Stops are important? These areas are explained with perfect simplicity. Even I can remember now!
- They are full "how-to" tips for photographing food, tricks and how to setup a shoot quickly and efficiently. What more can I say about it?
- You can tell with all of the books that the authors love food, love photography and really enjoy putting both worlds together. They are very enjoyable reads!
I own and have used all of these books extensively in my quest to increase my knowledge on photographing food. My suggestion to get started today is to download one of the e-books to start. I had to wait about 10 days for my Plate to Pixel book since it is out of print.

[…] Want to know what the best camera for blogging is? Me too. Provided you are using a DSLR camera (one where the lenses can be interchanged) of some sort, chances are good that you already have the best camera for blogging. My opinion is until you are ready to turn pro, the best camera for blogging is already in your hands. They key to unlocking its potential, however, can be learned with the great resources in Photographing Food. […]
