- Butter: I always use unsalted grass-fed butter if possible. It really makes the coffee taste great throughout the entire breakfast and gives the boost of energy you need in the morning. If you are avoiding milk fats, you can use ghee. The subtle nutty flavor of the ghee tastes great, too.
- MCT oil: You can use coconut oil without any issues. If you want, you can also move into a specialized MCT oil like XCT oil or C8 MCT oil for an even smoother blend and potential energy boost.

- Pumpkin spice mix: Yes, in the fall, I do enjoy just a touch of the pumpkin spice mix. It reminds me of all the fun activities and tastes great. Again, just a small pinch is enough.
- Natural sweetener: I’ve never really liked sweetened coffee, but on occasion, I’ve added ¼ teaspoon of monk fruit sweetener. You can also choose xylitol, erythritol, allulose, or stevia. Whatever your preference might be.
- Heavy cream: I went through a phase where I was adding heavy cream to my keto coffee. It really makes the coffee feel substantial and rich.
- Vanilla powder: I’ve tried vanilla extract in the past and didn’t really like the overall flavor. Then, I found some powdered vanilla online and started adding a small pinch of this delightful ingredient. The vanilla is a welcome addition any day of the week.
- Extracts: You can try different flavor extracts or flavor syrups in your coffee, but just add them sparingly. I’ve tried almond and mint with varying levels of success. I've also heard my friend adding hazelnut flavor to his coffee.

Making keto coffee is truly simple… and I’m going to show you exactly how I make it every morning. Here we go!
Cooking Method

Preparation Steps
- Brew 8 ounce of your favorite black coffee. You can use the Bulletproof brand of coffee or whatever you regularly drink. I do not use instant coffee as I have no idea what is in it.
- Add the coffee, butter, MCT oil and salt to the carafe of a blender. I use a Nutribullet because it is simple, easy to clean and doesn’t splash everywhere. If you are using a regular blender, be sure to cover the top with a dish towel as the steam released from the blending process will expand and come out of the top of the blender.
- Blend for 20-30 seconds or until really frothy and smooth.
- Pour into your favorite coffee cup and enjoy.
Step 1: Add the coffee, butter, MCT oil and salt to the carafe of a blender.

- Prepare in advance: I use a Nespresso machine for its simplicity. The night before, I filled the water reservoir, added my pod, and placed my cup on the machine. In the morning, all I have to do is press a button. I also pre-portion my butter into 1 tablespoon slabs in the fridge. This way, everything is ready to go, and I don't have to think or use willpower first thing in the morning.
- Create a coffee station: I’ve set up a small coffee station in a corner of my kitchen. It has two outlets, so the coffee machine and Nutribullet stay there without being disturbed. I keep a small bowl of kosher salt, a measuring tablespoon, and the MCT oil. Having everything within reach makes the process really streamlined.
- Drink from the carafe: Though I usually suggest pouring the coffee into your favorite mug, most days I just drink straight from the carafe. I have to clean it anyway, and it’s quicker in the morning. It gets the job done!
- Cleaning the carafe: To clean the carafe, there's no need for the dishwasher. Fill it halfway with hot water and add one drop of dish soap. Place it back on the base and pulse for about 15 seconds. If using a traditional blender, cover the top with a dish towel to prevent water from splashing out. Rinse and let it air dry once you have taken out the coffee from blender.
